Mowsbury Park, Bedford
Mowsbury Park is a park in Bedford, England. The Mowsbury Park was constructed by Lord James Seymour and it was the first to be built in the 1920s. Lord Seymour wished for the park to provide woodland and lawns which would be accessible and enjoyed by people of all means. The Mowsbury Park covers 45 acres and it provides facilities such as football pitches, tennis courts, an open-air theater, an arboretum where visitors can walk around and explore the trees and many other facilities. There is also a large lake that has wildfowl such as herons, ducks and geese among others.
Mowsbury Park is the largest park within the wards of Bedford. The land for this site was purchased by the local council in the 1930s. The site is currently 5400 square meters and features a bird hide, park bench, woods, secondary woodland, pond, wet woods and rocky field.
The location is also used as an arboretum to provide education about plants. It should be noted that there are many other attractions to visit at Mowsbury Park. These include cycling routes, BBQ areas, disability access toilet facilities and picnic tables.
There is also a historical building on the site that can be used as an outdoor classroom. The structure was once known as Mowsbury Manor and it has now been converted to provide educational purposes for local schools. There are current maps of the park online to help people find their way around. Visitors should ensure they bring any items that may be necessary if they intend to use the sports facilities.
Mowsbury Park was designed to meet the requirements of the Town Planning Scheme for Bedford. It was planned as an extension to the residential district of Rutland Avenue and is adjacent to other detached dwellings. The site comprises 1.93 acres.
The Bedford Borough Council’s Development Department approved a proposal in 1989 for a new housing estate on this land, but due to residential demand elsewhere within the borough, it has not been possible to proceed with these proposals at present.
Mowsbury Park is a great place to take your family and friends on the weekends. The park has grassy areas, flower gardens, and plenty of shade trees for those hot summer days. There are also playgrounds for kids who want to play on swings or slides. If you’re looking for something more adventurous there’s also a soccer field with goalposts and plenty of space for playing catch or even running around!
